Penang June 2012 (Part 1)

Didn't really want to blog about Penang in detail since most of the pictures can be viewed from my FB account. Anyway, I have decided to randomly chose some pictures that are of particular interest for this trip.

This Penang trip wasn't really meant to be a sightseeing one since I was prepared that there would be change of plans due to a toddler tagging along. It was not easy travelling with a toddler around. There was a baby bag to carry, a stroller (HEAVY one) and handling my nephew was a challenge. Shall not go into detail about my nephew least my sis scolds me! LOL

But this trip was still fun because it was more of a rest and relax one. We had full control of our time and we could do anything or eat whatever we wanted. So, be ready for the food that we had during the 4D3N trip and the places we visited.

Lunch from our hotel's cafe on the first day...

Penang Char Kway Teow
Love the fish sauce taste! Awesome! We ordered two plates.

Hokkien Mee
The soup base is so rich and their bee hoon is so fine! I think we all love it so much that we decided to order room service one night for supper.

Does it make you drool? haha

By the way, due to my mum's influence, our whole family love prawn noodles. So if you need some recommendations for the best prawn mee in Singapore, feel free to ask me.

View from our room
It's a family suite and I must thank KT for the recommendation. My family love how cosy the suite was and how convenient the hotel was. We really made ourselves at home.

Then, we went to Gurney Hotel which wasn't far in search of A&W. Sad to say, the only outlet near our hotel has closed down for good! :(

Man vs Food
These guys were competing for RM 4000 by finishing the super huge Matterhorn burger within 45 min! The thought of stuffing a huge thick patty and 12 slices of cheese already made me feel like barfing. LOL

The focus is on the third guy from the left who tackled his burger by eating layer after layer. He chomped down the patty and soon later, vomited everything.

The little monster is finally asleep! LOL

Gurney Drive Hawker Centre

All the food that we bought from there during our stay...
Vegetarian Hor Fun

Kueh Pa Ti

Fried Oyster Omelet

Penang Laksa

Dumpling Soup

Wanton Mee

Cuttlefish with KangKong

To be honest (don't mean to sound arrogant), there is nothing special about these food. We can find better ones in Singapore. Maybe even in just Newton except Penang Laksa.

Muah Chee

Penang CKT
Quite tasty. How do we know? Look, even Lucas can't stop eating it. LOL

Indian Rojak
meh...

Sunset view of the Gurney Drive...

Went to tabao dinner from a nearby coffeshop on the second night with Bro

Supposedly famous BBQ chicken wings...

BKT

Bro spotted a big fat rat!

The exterior of our hotel- Gurney Hotel

Visited the Pinang Peranakan Museum where little nonya was partially filmed at. This gives us an opportunity to experience how the peranakans live in the past. Mind you, they must be damn rich to afford all those furniture. Some of the stuff on display were not foreign to us because my greatgrandma was a nonya.

The dining room used to host dinner with guests.

Many mirrors around...

This looks like Joanne Peh's room?

Do you know that the nonyas have stopped making these bead shoes. If you want to get a pair, it has to be custom-made and cost a few hundreds!

Originally wanted to get a set of traditional peranakan outfit for future Racial Harmony Day or for next year's CNY, but they are so costly! Hundreds of dollars!

I like this part of the house. So green and peaceful.

Staff quarters

Kitchen!

Chendol

Oneh-oneh

Shall stop here! Will continue part 2 another day!
