Choosing Lights

I wasn't expecting the trouble of choosing furniture. I thought it was the simplest and most direct part of renovation. Just narrow down the designs that you want, scout for it and buy. That's it. But man, I was so wrong. We went down to Balestier (the place where you can find plenty of lighting shops) TWICE and during the first trip, we visited a couple of shops and Des' parents only managed to purchase the down lights and their room's lights. Even though we saw something we liked, we couldn't decide right away because we were not sure about the dimensions of our room and whether the size of the light will be a problem (in terms of proportion).

Honestly, I am not a arts person. I failed miserably in arts and design so I had a hard time deciding on the three ceiling lights that we would be getting for the bedroom, the hall and the study room. Needless to say for des. He was totally lost. But this problem was solved when I was googling for room designs and came upon this website called houzz.com. It is a website where interior designers upload pictures of rooms (any rooms) and you can view them for FREE! The best part is that the designs are all organised according to themes. Since we are looking for a more contemporary and modern theme, we just went through the pictures and narrowed down some layouts that were similar to the rooms and also had an idea of the lights that would suit the theme. So cool right!

Anyway, speaking of the trouble of choosing lights, during the two trips down to Balestier, I learnt so much about them. As mentioned in my previous post, there are so many different terms used for lighting. And for hanging lights in particular, we got to have an clear idea of how high the ceiling of the room is. After the second trip, we sort of decided on a hanging light for the bedroom. But my sis reminded us to check the height of the room for if the ceiling is of normal height, a hanging light may get in the way when we are lying down watching tv. Furthermore, it may cause the room to look more complicated.

Luckily, des went to the new house to check on the room dimension and his parents were nice enough to act as models to demonstrate the height of the ceiling! LOL

So now, we can installed a hanging light. I can safely say the search for lightings is complete!
